Honoring Extraordinary Women Journalists <br>at the Women’s Media Center Awards
On Nov. 5 I’ll have the distinct honor of giving the Women’s Media Center Pat Mitchell Lifetime Achievement Award to journalists Gwen Ifill (@gwenifill) and Judy Woodruff (@judywoodruff), two women I deeply admire (if you aren’t watching them nightly on PBS NewsHour, you should be). I’ll be interviewing Judy and Gwen for the Women’s Media Center radio show, "Live With Robin Morgan"; sign up for Pat’s List to be alerted when that interview is available, and to receive more interviews with powerful women, many available only to newsletter subscribers.
In anticipation of this year's ceremony, I want to take a moment to look back at last year’s award, which I presented to journalist Katie Couric. In an interview I conducted with Katie at the time, she told me, “I definitely ran into sexism at the beginning of my career, and, to a lesser extent, I have throughout my career.” She also described an executive at a radio station commenting on her breast size, and reflected on what a watershed moment the Anita Hill hearings were for professional women.
Listen to our full conversation (it starts at around 36:45). You can also watch my interview with Katie from the Paley Center for Media.
I hope you’ll follow Katie’s work over at Yahoo News, where she serves as Global News Anchor, and via her website. Learn more about the important work that the Women’s Media Center is doing here, and about the exceptional women being honored at the 2015 awards ceremony.
Till next time,
Pat
