'Rewilding' in Africa with Roar Africa's Deborah Calmeyer
Today’s episode of Dangerous Women: Leading Onward features Deborah Calmeyer, founder and CEO of Roar Africa, a luxury African safari company for women and by women. Roar Africa has disrupted the travel industry in Africa, offering safaris that are focused on conservation and community guided by the mission, “If African women rise, all wildlife thrive.” These trips feature women working in roles that are not typical in Africa, such as pilots, conservationists, executive chefs, guides and rangers.
Many people who visit Africa with Roar Africa tell Deborah that the experience has changed their lives. She believes that a “rewilding” has taken place, re-connecting visitors with nature in a way that is transformative in a visceral way.
“I witnessed the safari industry typically run by white males - that’s not good enough.”
