Gender Equity with Dr. Agnes Binagwaho
My guest today on Dangerous Women: Leading Onward is Dr. Agnes Binagwaho, a woman leader in Rwanda whom I’ve had the privilege of knowing for several years. As the former Minister of Health in Rwanda during the AIDS and Ebola epidemic, and now as Vice Chancellor and Co-Founder of the University of Global Health Equity, Dr. Binagwaho’s story is one of courageous leadership.
The University of Global Health Equity reimagines health education to ensure that quality health care reaches every individual in every corner of the globe. As Co-Founder, Dr. Binagwaho is passionate about changing how health care is delivered around the world - by training global health professionals who strive to deliver more equitable, quality health services for all.
During our conversation, Dr. Binagwaho spoke of the vaccine shortage in Rwanda, the vital role women played in Rwanda’s recovery from the 1994 genocide, and why the world is still so far behind on gender equality.
“We are behind because the world doesn’t understand…the word equity. We are behind because of cultural bias.”
Dr. Agnes Binagwaho
