Insights and Guidance from The Uprising
This week I wanted to share with you just some of the incredible information and news that I receive each week from my friend Susie T. Buell's excellent newsletter, The Uprising: Believing and Rebuilding Together. Susie delivers updates you may have missed about our democracy, including bills passed and in play in Congress and statehouses around the country, local races worth watching, candidates worth supporting, and good news about successes that are worth celebrating.
Her tagline is Be Informed. Be Involved. Be Joyful.
Thank you to Susie for letting me share some of The Uprising with you! Subscribe here and please spread the word about Susie's newsletter to your friends and family.
Last Monday The Uprising released their 2022 U.S. House Guide & Giving Recommendations, which you can view in full and share here!
In preparing this guide, The Uprising notes that they "carefully examined the information and analysis provided by nonpartisan election watchers including the Cook Political Report, Larry Sabato’s Crystal Ball, Inside Elections, and others." ...
"We've divided the guide into two sections: Top Red to Blue Challengers and Top Frontline Incumbents to help you use your funds strategically and decide which candidates you would like to support with your resources. You can give to one candidate, or more or all. We encourage you to choose as you wish because each of these candidates is a good investment. Maybe you’ll give to candidates from your home state, or to the women candidates who are pushing back against the patriarchy. Maybe you’ll make a rage-fueled donation every time a MAGA leader says something dumb. We know that this guide is extensive but so is our opportunity to elect dynamic Democratic leaders in the fall. Giving to these candidates is how you can stand up for your values and fight back. ...
These races are constantly changing, and The Uprising will continue to update the guide as these races take shape between now and November 8th. These campaigns have lots of work ahead of them, and we advise you to give to them now, in whatever capacity feels comfortable for you, so they can make the most of your generous contribution."
Only 94 days stand between us and the November midterm elections.
The Kansas vote reminds us that there is hope in action and that with commitment of time and resources to help get out the vote for every election, we can shift from the cynical underpinnings of "what difference does my vote make" to actively working to prove that every vote counts in a democracy.
As Susie noted in her most recent newsletter, quoting former prime minister of Pakistan Benazir Bhutto, “Democracy is the best revenge.”
Onward!

A note to readers: I will be taking a break from the newsletter during the month of August and will resume after Labor Day.
